Alternatively, reflections can be a distraction from the main subject of your photo. This is where a polarising filter is useful.
This filter can reduce, or even eliminate, reflections. It only works with non-metallic surfaces, such as water, and only when the filter is at an angle of around 45° to the surface, and the filter is rotated to the correct position in front of the lens. This may sound a little complicated but practice will make using it second nature.
A polarising filter can also darken the blue of a sky, making it a very useful accessory for your EOS. It is impossible to create all its effects with imaging software.
